Baker Neighborhood Assn
The Baker neighborhood is one of our favorite Denver success stories.

In 1975, the Baker neighborhood was delared "blighted" by the City and County of Denver.   Simply put, this means that the rehabilitation cost of the area was higher than the value of its existing structures.  Not a good designation.  Thanks to it's proud residents and convenient proximity to Downtown Denver, Baker came charging back.  In 1985, it was designated a Historic District, and today, is one of Denver's more eclectic and exciting communities.

It is considered to be one of the oldest neighborhoods in Denver, and you can still find many of the original buildings.  It features many beautiful pre-1900 Victorian homes - many that have been meticulously renovated, and some gems that are just waiting for you to bring them back to life.  Baker is the type of area where business owners walk to work, and their neighborhood pride shows through.

It is a neighborhood of diversity, both in the businesses and the residents.  You can find everything in Baker - trendy restaurants, theatres, antique stores, and places you wouldn't tell your mother about.  "Flavor" is a word that comes to mind - and that's exactly what the residents love.  It has a true urban feel, while still remaining a comfortable place to raise a family.

In recent years, it has welcomed several mixed-use projects, with ground level retail shops topped by modern lofts and condominiums.  A Light Rail stop is located at Broadway and I-25, giving easy access to downtown and the rest of the city.

Take some time to explore the Baker neighborhood.  Make sure to save time to walk along the many shops and restaurants on Broadway and catch a movie while sipping a cocktail or beer at the Historic Mayan Theatre.
