Located in Northwest Denver is a sleeping giant that has finally awoken.
The Berkeley neighborhood is the former home of Denver's favorite (if you like rickety, wooden roller coasters) amusement park, Elitch Gardens. For many years, the neighborhood was a reflection of the worn-out and increasingly ingnored amusement park.
In 1994 Elitch Gardens was relocated downtown to the Riverfront neighborhood, near the Pepsi Center. Many felt that this would be another blow to a fading neighborhood. Fortunately, the residents of Berkeley didn't agree.
Investors and savvy homebuyers soon began buying up the reasonably priced brick bungalows, tudors, and Denver Square homes. Featuring quiet, tree-lined streets with great park access and mountain views, the word soon got out about Berkeley. The buyers have been coming in droves ever since.
Berkeley has what we like to call the "right mix". A good, walkable neighborhood with lots of small local shops, old theatres, and restaurants that give you the feeling that you don't need to leave your neighborhood for anything. It doesn't hurt that Berkeley has one of Denver's most thriving art scenes, taking up a ten block section of Tennyson Street.
Berkeley also benefits from it's location immediately north of the West Highlands neighborhood, which is the flagship of urban renewal in northwest Denver. Easy access to downtown, I-70, and the Colorado Rocky Mountains is also a big plus. Golfers will enjoy Willlis Case Golf Course - a handy, laid back local public course that will have you thinking Bushwood Country Club from CaddyShack.
If you are looking to buy real estate in Denver's Berkeley neighborhood, get out of the car and take a walk. Don't miss the Tennyson Arts District, the dog park, and the incredible mountain views. Prices are still reasonable here, but it won't pay to wait....the secret is out.
If you are considering buying or selling Berkeley real estate, feel free to give us a call - we would love the opportunity to work in one of our favorite Denver neighborhoods.
