Bonnie Brae is one of the more popular neighborhoods in Denver.
Meaning "Pleasant Hill", the neighborhood originally was built to mimic a small Scottish-style village on the outskirts of Denver.
Things have definitely changed in the past hundred years. Located between Cherry Creek, Belcaro, and Washington Park, Bonnie Brae is now considered one of the premier central locations in the city. This has not gone unnoticed by developers. The small ranch-style and Cape Cod homes which dominated the neighborhood from the 1950's to the early 1990's are now few and far between. Bonnie Brae is now dominated by large custom-built homes with all the amenities of modern life. The smaller homes that remain are priced based upon their lot value, meaning that the price per square foot can get pretty steep on smaller homes.
The advantages of the neighborhood are numerous, and the "village style" layout still gives Bonnie Brae it's distinct character. The winding, tree-lined streets mean little traffic, and lots of comfort. A conversation with your neighbor from across the street is not uncommon. The neighborhood centers itself around Bonnie Brae Park, which is a smaller, less crowded option to Washington Park, to the west. A cluster of shops and restaurants on University Boulevard at Exposition completes the "village" feel. If you want a modern dream home with all the benefits of living in central Denver, this could be the place for you.
