The Hilltop Neighborhood sprawls across a beautiful tree filled area to the southeast of Downtown Denver and due east of the Cherry Creek area. Hilltop runs from Alameda Avenue on the south up to 6th Avenue on the north. Colorado Boulevard forms the western border. The eastern border is slightly more complex and is formed primarily by Quebec Avenue; however, it does not include Lowry Field or the area between E. 1st Ave and E. 3rd Ave that are east of Oneida Court because these areas used to be part of the Lowry Area.
Even among long-time Denver residents Hilltop is relatively undiscovered except for its border streets. Though the mansions along 6th Avenue are well known, the interior of the neighborhood is less so thanks to a dearth of thru-streets. Only Holly Street carriers much more than neighborhood traffic, and residents like it this way. As a quiet low-traffic neighborhood, Hilltop is very much the kind of place where you actually know your neighbors. Though no official trails make their way through the area, residents simply choose their walking, jogging, or dog walking route from among the many quiet tree-lined streets. With many long-time residents, Hilltop is the kind of place where people know you (and your dog) by name.
Hilltop is home to beautiful parks. Cranmer Park is one of the city's most scenic. It sits on the highest part of the hill that gives the neighborhood its name and offers spectacular views of the mountains and is a favorite of locals and non-locals for watching a sunset. The centerpiece of the park is a large sundial set on a promenade of flagstone. From the sundial, one can appreciate Colorado's famous sunshine in a new way; not only as wonderful warmth from the blue sky, but as a time-keeper as well. Also in the neighborhood is Robinson Park which sports a basketball court, football field, and soccer field. Both parks are popular with dog walkers, joggers, and, in the winter, sledders and cross-country skiers. Though technically in the Crestmoor Neighborhood, Crestmoor Park also provides a beautiful area for Hilltop Residents.
Nearby are the Cherry Creek Shopping District with its high-end mall, and numerous restaurants and boutiques. Also close by is the new Lowry Town Center. Easy access to downtown is a big plus and makes Hilltop home to many city-based power players.
What makes Hilltop so special is the feeling of a quiet mature suburban neighborhood in the middle of the city. Houses in the area run from turn of the century bungalows to 1970s style sprawling ranches, to old-world mansions, and becoming more common brand new mansions built on formerly vacant or "double" lots. In sharp contrast to the nearby Cherry Creek North neighborhood, homes here are still houses instead of town homes and they come with a yard and a garage that isn't stuck underneath or behind your home. Because of its great location, beautiful amenities, and quiet neighborhood feel, homes in Hilltop command prices above those nearby.
