The Jefferson Park neighborhood is one of Denver's smallest. In addition, approximately half is commercial and residential, so it has pretty much the smallest residential area in the city. The Jefferson Park neighborhood sits south of the more well-known Highlands neighborhood. With an elevation similar to Highlands, Jefferson Park has a great view of the Downtown area. The neighborhood runs from I-25 to Federal Boulevard between Speer Boulevard and Colfax Avenue. The Jefferson Park neighborhood seemingly has its own private access to downtown via the 23rd Street Overpass which wisks residents into Downtown Denver in just a few minutes. Access to I-25 is quick along either Colfax Avenue at the south end or Speer Boulevard at the north end.
The namesake park is in the heart of the neighborhood and sports a basketball court, picnic area, and playground in addition to an open grassy space. Jefferson Park also takes the honor of being the neighborhood that contains the Broncos' home stadium, Invesco Field at Mile High. On game days, this can obviously create both parking and traffic problems, but it is helpful to remember that an NFL season has only eight home games each year (excepting the glorious years in which the home team makes the playoffs.)
Homes in Jefferson Park are variously styled. Clumps of homes take on the character of the time they were build. Some single family homes date from the early 1900s while many of the apartment complexes date from the 1960s. Recently, there has been some development in the form or rebuilding and renovation. Much of this activity takes place along the northern part of the neighborhood as opportunities in the neighboring Highlands area become harder to find.
Most retail and dining activity takes place along Federal Boulevard. This stretch of Federal provides nearly complete amenities for neighborhood residents and boasts a number of authentic ethnic restaurants as well as several nightlife options for those who are not interested in the downtown scene.
As a small neighborhood tucked in central Denver, Jefferson Park provides a unique urban lifestyle to those who call it home.
