The 18-block Old South Pearl Street Business District in the heart of Platt Park - brightly lit at night by black street lamps reminiscent of old-fashioned gas lamps - is the drawing card of the neighborhood. Stately, handsome Victorian red-brick homes snuggle around this gem-of-a-business hub that sports the famous Pearl Street Grill and well-known and very popular Sushi Den. Both fine establishments are busy on week nights and jammed on Friday and Saturday nights.
Interstate-25 is just a stone's throw away from Old South Pearl Street and residents can hop on the Light Rail at the Louisiana-Park Light Rail Station. Before heading to the train locals can stop in at Stella's Coffee Haus for a cappuccino, latte or double espresso and their favorite pastry. For dinner, they might try a new swank restaurant, Black Pearl, "New American," just a block south of the Sushi Den. From auto repair to an old fashioned bicycle shop, the Old South Pearl Street Business District has it all. And on sunny Sunday spring and summer mornings stroll the street with family and friends and meet new ones while shopping the famous Farmers Market.
Decker Library, a branch of the Denver Public Library, is just a few blocks away, snug up against James H. Platt Park. And if you've got some little ones ready for or already in elementary school, you can enroll them in the McKinley-Thatcher Elementary School, near Florida and Arizona streets, whose motto is "Soaring Into Literacy."
Take a cruise down Broadway and shop Antique Row and for lunch grab a pastrami sandwich at Heidi's Brooklyn Deli. The Platt Park Senior Recreation Center at 1500 Grant Street, one of Denver Parks & Recreation's many fine recreation centers, caters to people who are 50 years old and older.
If you're looking for a neighborhood that has it all - shops, stores, restaurants, ambience and downright charm - then Platt Park is for you.
