Located at the southern most point of the Denver city limits is the Southmoor Park neighborhood. Originally built in the 1960's and 70's as a more "suburban" appendage to urban Denver, the properties in Southmoor Park are comprised of moderately priced homes on large lawns. In recent years, Southmoor Park as a neighborhood has experienced a period of renovation, as many of the homes have been remodeled with modern architecture and style.
Because of its relatively centralized location in reference to Denver and the greater metro area as a whole, Southmoor Park will serve as a connecting point in the highly convenient RTD light rail system. A new light rail station will be soon opened in the area connecting downtown Denver to the popular Park Meadows area in the south and connections to all over the city. This addition will provide residents of Southmoor Park with a trouble-free means of transportation all over the city.
One of the key locations in the area is Southmoor Park itself. This 17-acre park is perfect any time of the year for a variety of activities. A walking trail winds its way through the park past softball and soccer fields, shelters and picnicking areas, basketball court, and a recently added playground.
Southmoor Park is filled with a variety of public establishments. The Civic Center can be found toward the north of the area, south of Denver's near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Broadway. Civic institutions such as the Denver Art Museum, central branch of the city's public library, Colorado State Capitol, and City and County Building, and the Denver Mint are scattered throughout the neighborhood. Additionally, a classical Greek amphitheater, the Voorhees Memorial Seal Pond, other war memorials, several fountains and statues can be found in Southmoor Park. These additions emphasize the civic-minded atmosphere of the neighborhood.
