University Hills Plaza and its sister shopping center, University Hills South, on South Colorado Boulevard anchor the southern end of the University Hills neighborhood, which is a triangle formed by Interstate 25 on the east, Hampden Boulevard to the south and Colorado Boulevard on the east.
A host of stores, shops and services are readily available in the two well-established shopping centers, from banking to fine restaurants, clothing and grocery stores, to an old-fashioned barbershop - with an original red-and-white-striped barber pole in front of the shop - to a state-of-the-art fitness center.
Newcomers to this fine old neighborhood can catch flicks at the old movie theatre Chez Artiste and buy groceries at the relatively new Sun Flower Market in University Hills South, which also sports a 24-hour Rite Aid. Nearby is the acclaimed Denver Academy and Van Deller Christian School, both off Iliff Avenue and a short drive from University Hills Baptist Church.
Handsome ranch homes dot the neighborhood that surrounds the plazas and residents can easily get to the Yale Light Rail Station next to I-25. The Charles A. Bradley Elementary School inhabits the corner of South Dahlia Street and Dexter Way. South Dahlia is a designated Bike Route by the City of Denver. More well-kept ranch homes done in lively colors such as pink, barn red, and purple spruce up the neighborhood about five blocks south of the school.
The University Hills Lutheran Church School is in a Neighborhood Watch area. Locals can take long spring, summer and fall strolls in the long, slender Eisenhower Park, which runs parallel to Highline Canal along East Dartmouth Avenue. The west end of the park kisses Colorado Boulevard and is home to the Eisenhower Recreation Center, which boasts a pool, softball and soccer fields and tennis courts. Several picnic tables are scattered amongst a sprinkling of Ponderosa Pines.
